Cognitive skills in teacher training in basic education in problem-based learning

This research analyzes on the cognitive skills manifested by a group of six teachers participants when solving an authentic problem, proposed by them, over a vacation course developed in Federal University of Pará. We characterize according to the qualitative approach, supporting us in methodological supports such as field diaries and videotapes, with subsequent transcription of the subjects' speeches for the construction of analyzed data. We present the concept of cognition, as well as necessary steps for the human mind reaches what can be considered as cognitive skills. we still try to analyze how the levels of difficulty, placed on the questions of the monitors, influenced the manifestation of these skills. We also consider the use of investigative experimentation, as the main methodology used in the Vacation Course, evidencing that this involves some steps that are directed from Problem-Based Learning (PBL). Based on this research, can be identified that the use of investigative experimental activities contributes, significantly, to for cognitive skills to develop and manifest in their participants, evidencing that the methodology used in this course is close to the objectives pursued in the PBL.
