Le séjour au pair : échange culturel ou véritable travail domestique ?

Abstract

Between cultural exchange and real domestic work; between students, domestic workers and long-term tourists, the au pair stay and the young people who are part of it are subject to a very specific status and regulation. These particularities make the au pair program a program with risks of precariousness, abuse of power or even exploitation. To respond to the specificities of this program, this research work focused on the au pair stay in France through the experience of au pairs currently and previously in a host family. This article offers a summary of research results on the realities of the au pair stay and the porosity of the borders between work and cultural exchange.
