«E ordinò di farne panni coi quali coprire le sue parti peccaminose»: alcuni appunti di lettura sulla Cantiga de Santa María del monaco blasfemo di Odemira (327)

Abstract

Among the various Cantigas de Santa Maria located in Portugal, no. 327 is still an enigma as to the sources that could have inspired it and the motives that could give it meaning: it is the story of a cleric punished for wanting to make underwear with an altar cloth. This contribution aims to guide the reader through the cultural heritage of the Cantiga, both by comparing it with narrative parallels that might recall the salient points of the story and by recalling the reasons and beliefs related to the use of the altar cloths used to give meaning to the action of the protagonist.
