Determining the Attitude of IndividualsAttending the Cancer Activity
Abstract
Aim: This study was conducted to determine the attitude of the society towards cancer. Method: The data of the descriptive study were collected at the World CancerDay event on February 4, 2019. The universe of the study consists of individuals over the age of 18 who participate in cancer activity. It is aimed to reach the entire universe by not choosing the sample. The data were collected using a personal information form and "Attitude Scale Towards Cancer-CommunityVersion". Data were analyzed using number, percentage, mean, t-test andanalysis of variance. Results: The average age of the participants in the study is 37.30±14.21. The mean score of the scale is 3.03±0.52, and the subscale mean scores are; Impossibility of recovery was 2.81±0.67 discrimination sub-dimension 3.46±0.65 and cancer detection / dissemination sub-dimension was 2.98±0.86. As age increases, negative attitude towards cancer increases (r: -,187 p:0.01). Conclusions: Participants in the study found negative attitudes towards cancer. Community-based education and information should be provided to prevent perceptions and attitudes towards cancer and cancer patients.
