The objective of this work was to evaluate the adsorptive properties of ordered mesoporous materials of silica and carbon. It is known that mesoporous materials have great accessibility to bulky molecules such as dyes, organic compounds, however, the surface composition is important for the retention of these compounds. The dyes, especially the textiles, have been much studied due to the pollution of the water they cause. Based on this, orderly mesoporous silica (KIT-6) was synthesized and, from it, ordered mesoporous carbon (CMK-8). The two materials were tested for adsorption of Rhodamine B The characterization results show that the structure of the silica mesoporous material remains in its replica, having a specific area much higher. During the adsorption tests with the Rhodamine B dye, it can be observed that the removal efficiency of the carbon material is much higher than the silica material, indicating that the accessible area and chemical composition play an important role in the process.
