INTRODUCTION[|]This study aims to bring in a new field-specific measurement tool by conducting the Turkish adaptation and validity and reliability studies of Moral Distress Scale for Psychiatric Nurses (MDS-P) developed by Ohnisni et al. (2010) to measure the level of moral distress for psychiatric nurses. [¤]METHODS[|]It is a validity and reliability study defined in a methodological pattern.Target population of study consists of nurses working in psychiatric hospitals İn Turkey. This study, number of items of the scale planned to be adapted is 15. It was envisaged that 10 people were required for each item and number of samples was determined as 150. Data were collected through the Nurse Information Form and (MDS-P). Construct validity explanatory and confirmatory factor analysis were used after the language, scope and appearance validity of MDS-P was performed. For reliability analysis, Cronbach alpha coefficient was applied with split half method, item total score correlation and item analysis.[¤]RESULTS[|]The average age of the participants is 35.5 +- 6.8. Average years of employment in the profession was found to be 13.3 +- 7.2 years while average working years in psychiatry was found to be 6.4 +- 5.4 years. It was determined that the scale, which has a three-factor structure in its original form, has four-factor structure in Turkey. Since factoring is different, factor has been renamed. According to the AFA results, it was determined that professional autonomy sub-dimension consists of 7 items (4,5,6,7,9,10,14), inactionsub-dimension consists of 3 items (8,11,13), justice sub-dimension consists of 3 items (1,2,3) and administrative ethicssub-dimension consists of 2 items (12,15). Internal consistency coefficient for entire scale was found 87. Internal consistency coefficients of sub-dimensions of scale were determined to vary between 65-86. [¤]DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION[|]It was determined that MDS-P is a valid and reliable scale for Turkish language and culture as 15 items and four sub-dimensions.[¤]
