À propos de carte(s)… Propos sur l’histoire d’une carte : Le planisphère d’Alberto Cantino
Abstract
Even if a map is not complete, as it was the case in Treasure Island, it will be a mine of suggestions, stated Robert Louis Stevenson. The polysemia of the word ‘map’ confirms this richness which transcends geography and iconicity by connecting with issues of power. Indeed a map is language; it is a text subject to various interpretations. Therefore one will scrutinize the links between literature and cartography, between Europe and America from the Middle Ages to this day, through an analysis of Gérard Vindt’s novel: Le planisphère d’Alberto Cantino-Lisbonne 1502.
