Measurement of Land Ecological Footprint in Different Sectors Iranian Economy: Using Input-Output Approach
Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the status of sustainable development in Iran and perform an assessment of natural capital such as land, based on a biophysical indicator called Land Ecological Footprint. Ecological Footprint is compared with the amount of ecologically productive land available to give an indication of whether consumption patterns are likely to be sustainable or not. To measure sustainability, the Ecological Footprint provides an estimate of the land area necessary to sustain current levels of resource consumption for a given population. To calculate the ecological footprint, there are two methods in relation to the final consumption of a given population; First method is at a macro level and incapable of explaining the ecological footprint at a sectoral level. To address this shortcoming, a modified input-output analysis is used to calculate the Ecological Footprint. In this paper, the second method is used to measure the Ecological Footprint. This paper is based on the statistical data of 1380 and 1385. The overall findings show the Land Ecological Footprint in Iran has decreased from 1380 to 1385 and Iran faced an ecological deficit in both years
