Not so much, nearly hundred years ago, the plague had fallen from the agenda of humanity but was a main horrifying actor as a creator of massive deaths during five hundred years. The Venetian Republic, which owes its existence to the sea and trade, has fought centuries against this destructive enemy. The first quarantine in the world against the plague is done in 1423 at the Lazzaretto Vecchio, founded by the Republic. Than, starting from the Venetian example, quarantine practices will start in whole Europe and the term of "quarantena", which takes its name from waiting for “forty days”, will enter the world literature in this way.
