"The Scientist Layman" Versus the Stately Hierocrat: The Problem of Possible Sovereign Epistemological Discoursein Politary Society
Abstract
The desire of the individual to the knowledge for the sake of knowledge looks for the masses of ordinary people as invalid luxury, or crankiness or snobbery. However, precisely because of those who are obsessed with a thirst for knowledge and not content with cash array of empirical and theoretical information, progress eventually science, society and culture. Factors limiting the free exploration of nature and the cosmos in politary societies (ancient Egypt and Babylon, ancient and medieval India and China, medieval Arab-Muslim States), are the dominant sacred worldview and earthly interests of the clergy standing on its guard."Scientists laymen" (astronomers, engineers, mathematicians, physicians, etc.) are forced to practice their profession in conditions of strong and hard resistance of good cohesive hierocracy. Epistemological discourse in politary society is possible, in particular, through a free dialogue between scientists and through bridging monological, dogmatic thinking style imposed by the ruling hierarchy and conservative social structures.
