Hypoglycemia in patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus: incidence and risk factors (review of literature)

The review of literature considers questions of hypoglycemia as a limiting factor in the treatment of diabetes mellitus (DM). Most frequent risk factors of hypoglycemia in patients with type 1 DM are: HbA1с level, endogenous insulin deficiency, daily distribution of basal insulin doses, total daily insulin dose, DM duration. For patients with type 2 DM, the main risk factors of hypoglycemia are: HbA1c level, sex, age, DM duration, cerebrovascular diseases, kidney diseases, coronary heat disease, dementia, use of insulin in combination with sulfonylureas, dosages of sulfonylureas, total daily dose of insulin, sleep duration, day of week, intensity of daily physical activity.
