Intersectoriality in the care of children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders
Abstract
Introduction: one of the main challenges for today's society is the attention to people who have disabilities. Autism spectrum disorders are of low prevalence, but require care from family and society. Objective: to examine how this affects intersectoriality in care and evaluating knowledge of the people involved and the factors and procedures used to implement it. Method: descriptive observational cross-sectional research was conducted between September and December 2013 which includes the criteria of 14 parents or tutors of seven patients diagnosed in the “Rolando Pérez Quintosa” School and 27 community leaders. Results: 63.4% of relatives refer that children or adolescents do not participate in social activities of the community, more than 60% valued positively the actions of Health, Education and Social Security and the opposite happens with community organizations masses, Trade, Sport and Culture. 77.8% of community leaders have not received indications and recognize not having sufficiently addressed. Conclusions: despite the conditions, the country has to make extensive use of intersectoriality prevailing limitations in the order of policies, programs, decisions, staff training and procedures, which negatively influences the comprehensive care of these children in special need.
