Juan Van der Hamen, Juan Pérez de Montalbán y la comunidad de intereses entre artistas y literatos en Madrid en torno a 1625
Abstract
The study of the life and work of the painter Juan Van der Hamen and the writer Juan Pérez de Montalbán, and the analysis of the relations between both of them and the physical and intellectual places in which they coincided, allow us to have a deeper knowledge of the links between many of the leading writers and artists active in court in the first decades of the 17th Century. This article explores some of those places, especially the gallery of portraits of intellectuals that Van der Hamen formed, the inclusion of the name of the painter in the “parnassus” of illustrious locals published by Pérez de Montalbán, the presence of both in the Diálogos de la pintura of Vicente Carducho, or the portraits of the writer that were included in the preliminary pages of his works.
