The aim of the article is to describe the current situation and the possibilities of development of intermodal transport in the Slovak Republic (SR) with the potential to link the Slovak Republic better to the inter-modal transport corridors in the countries of the European Community. The construction and operation of a publicly accessible network of intermodal terminals and the installation of non-discriminatory service providers are the main parts of the national development strategy, particularly in continental transport SR. The aim of this transport is to replace road freight transport with using environmentally acceptable rail and water transport together with flexible road transport. To meet this objective, it is necessary to build a comprehensive and progressive of network of public intermodal transport terminals in the places where the different types of transport systems come together.
