The article describes the particularities of breeding different ecotypes of winter wheat in the Republic of Moldova. On the base of the model of wheat variety created at the Research Institute for Field Crops “Selectia” for the ecological conditions of the Republic of Moldova two ecotypes of winter wheat are breeded which are complementing each other on their morphological and biological features: semi-intensive medium-stature varieties with high adaptivity and high crop stability, designed for cultivation on sloping eroded land and in general on more poor soil; short-stature and semi-dwarf varieties of intensive ecotype for cultivation on more rich soil and under irrigation conditions. With the use of the classical method of intraspecific hybridization of ecologically and geographically distant parental forms a variety of breeding materials was created which allows to select perspective varieties for the State Variety Trials. At this period twelve varieties, developed by the Institute are recognized varieties in Moldova. The better ones are: Fenix, Rod, Acord (intensive ecotype) and Meleag, Vestitor, Creator, Capriana (semi-intensive ecotype).
