‘Terras do sem fim’ and ‘The violent land’: adventure and social criticism
Abstract
This article aims to present the results of the comparison between Terras do sem fim, by Jorge Amado, and The violent land, translated by Samuel Putnam. The violent land was adapted to the North-American censorship on morality, however, the US government control over the translation project did not restrict the social criticism in the Brazilian text, which through the translation reached an English speaking audience.
