Replenishing of library fonds of Ukraine with publications from projects of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine: "Ukrainian scientific books in foreign languages", "Scientific translations" and "Science for all"
Abstract
The purpose of the study is to evaluate and highlight the role of three book projects of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine: "Ukrainian scientific books in foreign languages", "Science for all" and "Scientific translations". These projects, as well as the two considered inour previous article ("Scientific book" and "Scientific book. Young scientists"), are carried out by the Academy with budget funds. For this reason, the published books are subject to free distribution, and they replenish the fonds of the libraries, thanks to the required sending out of a publications’ control copy by publishing houses in particular. Methodology. The essential quantitative indicators of the projects’ functioning were considered from the beginning of their work through the end of 2023. All the calculations given in the article were made on the basis of orders of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the distribution of print runs and grouped by years, departments, and recipients of editions. Scientific novelty. The distribution peculiarities of books produced under the titled three academicprojects were studied quantitatively for the first time. This study made it possible to estimatethe contribution of projects to the state library fonds replenishment. Conclusions. Over 2005-2023, according to the analyzed projects, 97 publication names were published, which total print run was 25,500 copies. 5.01% of them were sent as control copies, 7.22% were re ceived by the V.I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine and Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library, and 13.24% - by institutions of higher education. Among the latter, the primary recipients are the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", but depending on the project, supplies to other libraries ("Science for all") and other institutions of higher education ("Ukrainian scientific books in foreign languages") obtain a significant value. Considering this, the significant role of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the intentional replenishment of library fonds of our country with high-quality modern scientific and popular science literature becomes obvious. Such activity becomes especially important due to the reduction of the list of required copies, which is proposed to be introduced at the legislative level starting in 2024.
