This paper discusses the archaeobotanical research on craft plants such as textile plants (flax, nettle, hemp) or dyeing ones (weld). This discussion is based on archaeobotanical data from Northern France, using sites dating from the Bronze Age up to medieval times, compared to other kind of archaeological evidence. It brings to light the difficulties to link archaeobotanical finds (seeds and fruit) to a hypothetic craft use. Hence, it reminds us how essential it is to increase the types of approach and to cross over the disciplines.
