The north-east of Mount Lebanon is a mountainous Mediterranean region which suffers from water erosion. Due to the lack of data related to precipitation's intensity, an erosion risk map was generated based on the classes of soil erosivity, lithology, slope and vegetal cover. The overlay of these parameters using GIS identifies that 36 % of the study area suffers from high erosion, essentially in areas with sparse vegetal cover. The validation of the GIS model through remote sensing and field investigations shows a reliability of the results of about 80 %, based on the receding roots and the depth of the rills.
