Los prodigios del amor (1619) y la novela de Polidoro y Aurelia (1620): un caso de auto-reescritura en la obra de Alonso Jerónimo de Salas Barbadillo

Abstract

This essay explores the intertextuality between Alonso Jerónimo de Salas Barbadillo’s comedy Los prodigios del amor (1619) and his versified short story Polidoro y Aurelia (1620). After underscoring the similarities that both texts share from the point of view of the content, I will highlight their main differences. In particular, using the terminology proposed by Genette, I will analyze the formal transformations made by the author in order to rewrite the Neapolitan lovers’ story and adapt it to the grammar of a novella in ottava rima.
