This study addresses the problem of school dropout prevention from a historico-cultural theory of activity point of view which gives a detailed understanding of what actors in working situation do. More specifically, it focuses on the activity of teachers involved in a local class project named “virtual entreprise”. Observations and interviews identify motives and commitments of teachers’ activity involved in this project. Our results show that this project reinforces the bond between students and their school by helping teachers and students co-construct meaningful schoolwork. It also impacts positively the teacher-student relationship dynamics, which combats school dropout. Finally, this program contributes to the professional development of the teachers as it opens perspectives to a new kind of professionality.
