Building cleaning activities characterize a sector with significant number of accidents, reduced qualification, depreciation and precarious outsourcing. We interviewed sixty janitors working in a vocational school in Vitória/ES, in order to identify the workers profile, the risks found in the school environment, in addition to accident rates made available by the government. Results indicated poor training, lack of training, among others. Identified risks include: biological and ergonomic accidents. The investigation demonstrated that the frequency of commuting accidents in this segment is higher than the national average, and the occurrence of typical accidents is reduced. A high number of unreported accidents is observed. We propose the establishment of risk prevention programs that prioritize awareness of workers and elimination of accident conditions.
