The article addresses issues of the application of the polycontextual approach when students study the cycle “Romeo and Juliet” by S. Prokofiev in the piano class. This approach includes such important contexts as musical, literary, social, ideological, musical plastic and interpretive contexts. The contexts are revealed. It is shown the importance of taking into account the student thesaurus when choosing the contexts in the course of work on the character. The difference in the choice of contexts in working with Russian and Chinese students is substantiated. It is proposed to consider the features of learning the cycle at different levels of piano training of students. These features help to understand the musical content of the cycle. Special attention is paid to the formation of the readiness of future musiciansteachers to interpret the eternal theme of Love through the prism of the dialogue between the cultures of Russia and China in their professional activities.
