PSYCHOLOGICAL RESILIENCE OF CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS: REVIEW OF FOREIGN RESEARCH
Abstract
Background. Employees of correctional institutions of the penal system in any country of the world are at risk of sudden increase in workplace stress, which creates the need for a scientific search for personal resources that ensure their mental health and emotional and psychological well-being. Experience has been gained abroad in researching the psychological resilience of prison staff as a predictor of mental health and a protector of burnout. The purpose of this article is to present an overview of foreign publications devoted to the study of the psychological resilience of employees of the penitentiary system, based on a systematic approach to the analysis of factors (predictors) of its development and their diagnosis. Research methods. Articles were searched in international databases (Web of Science, Scopus, Semantic Scholar) with subsequent content analysis. The content analysis was aimed at systematizing occupational risk factors and factors (predictors) of the development of psychological resilience of employees of the penitentiary system, methods for diagnosing psychological resilience and the state of psychological resilience. The results of the study specify approaches to the definition and study of the psychological resilience of employees of the penitentiary system of the United States, Great Britain, China, and Nigeria. Environmental and intrapersonal factors (predictors) of psychological resilience are generalized. The results obtained can be used in Russia in the study of the psychological resilience of employees of the penitentiary system and the implementation of special programs of professional psychological guidance.
