El paisaje pesquero de Jerez de la Frontera a finales de la Edad Media: caladeros, flota, distribución y consumo
Abstract
Jerez de la Frontera was not one of the fishing powers of the Late medieval andalusian coast. their relative distance from the atlantic coast, a whole series of jurisdictional disputes with the seigniories of the area, and the preponderance of other cores in the area with a more seafaring tradition, such as El Puerto de Santa María, limited the exercise of this activity of the neighbors of this locality. In spite of this, it had a rich fluvial fishing landscape which was object of dispute on the part of the local powers for the economic benefits that they provided. Fluvial resources that were insufficient to supply the second most important population of the kingdom of Seville.this fact explains the policies of supply and attraction of foreign fishermen by the council of Jerez.
