De Giotto aux indigènes civilisés : le primitif dans les horizons modernistes entre Italie, France et Brésil
Abstract
The article presents three case studies: first, the concept of the primitive in the historiography of Italian Renaissance art. Next, the article discusses the notion of « sauvage » art in French Surrealism. Finally, I analyze the figure of the cannibal and the depiction of Indians in Brazilian modernism. The cases are addressed as « vertiginous perspectives », characterized by a deconstructive methodology that challenges the functions of history in understanding cultural identity.
