Abstract
Every ritual performed by human society has been performed through ages based on the situation. Birth, maturation, marriage and death are the basic rituals of human life. Based on that, marriage is considered to be the most important event in human society. A marriage relationship is a bond that represents the permanent union of a man and a woman. In such a marriage event one's legacy and lineage grow. Marriage is what transforms a man into a complete human being of maturity and character. The archaic nature of marriage is seen in the proverbial case of marriage as a crop of millennia (Ayiram Kalathu Payir). Marriage is the basis for the organization of the family. People are performing various rituals based on faith to get wealth and prosperity in life. A ritual is a gathering of close relatives in every house at the temple or in a commonplace. It is said that marriage is made in heaven because in ancient times there were no marriages without a wedding ceremony. Boyar People is a group of people who live in the Dharmapuri District of Tamil Nadu. There are many rituals performed during marriage in the Boyar tribe, all of which are related to the Tamil culture. Thus, all the rituals performed by the Boyar people follow the pattern of activities of primitive times. Hence, this article studies the marriage rituals among the people.
