Solar home systems for self-consumption and used with solar micro-grid will help solving the grid instability problem resulted from high penetration of solar PV systems. We have developed an innovative pyramid solar micro-grid, which connects several solar home systems according to the binary hierarchy. Several 1+1 and 2+2 pyramid solar micro-grid were built for field test. In the present study, we further built eight solar home systems which is connected as a 4+4 pyramid solar micro-grid. The performance test shows that the total solar energy generation increases 12.5% in average. The solar power dispatching operates mostly at B-Level (63.3%), while C-Level power dispatching occupies 23.3% total energy dispatched. The 4+4 pyramid solar micro-grid was also tested as a two separate 2+2 micro-grids. The results show that the B-Level power dispatching with 2+2 connection occupies 83.8% total energy dispatching. It is found that the two separate 2+2 micro-grids performs almost identical with the single one 4+4 micro-grid.
