Mijo (Misko) Radošević (b. Lokve, 10th October 1884 -d. Stara Gradiška, March (?) 1942) is the author of the novel called "Caricatures" (1908) which, tagether with the works of the better known Janko Polić Kamov and Josip Baričević, represents "Rijeka's" contribution to the Croatian avant-garde literary movements at the beginning of the 20th century. It is interesting that Radošević chose as the subject-matter on the thematic level of his first work fairly modern ideas of his time: Nietzscheanism, hereditarian theory, organicistic view of the world, Zeitgeist. He resorted to fashionable reading as well: "Gender And Caracter" by Otto Weinninger. Consequently, the idea of novel guaranted a relatively liberal approach to the semantically still undefined fields in Croatian literature and opened up the possibility of their semantization. The purpose of this paper is to determine the ways of semantic interrelating of irony and grotesque around "Caricatures".
