Article highlights Aggregate interlock contributes to shear resistance under impact load conditions. Cracked sections with larger aggregate sizes transfer larger shear force along the crack surface in comparison with the ones with smaller aggregates. The contribution of aggregate interlock in shear resistance decreases in the presence of shear reinforcement.
