NURSING AUDIT IN INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC JOURNALS IN THE 1955-1972 PERIOD

http://dx.doi.org/10.5902/217976927511 Objective: to analyze the first experiences of international nursing audits in the period from 1955 to 1972. Method: historical with descriptive literature review in Medline journals. Results: the articles indicated the existence of medical audit, also called "audit of patient care," a term which excluded the nursing care. In response, the American audit nursing emerged in hospital and home care as a way to maintain the independence of their own assessment, although there was internal resistance. The implementation of the audit was initiated by the committees, training, including the creation and modification of records of assessment tools. The first results were disappointing due to superficial or stereotypical notes and underutilization of nursing plan. Conclusion: the first audits were less oriented to the financial issue and it was tended to approach the quality of the clinical reasoning annotation in nursing plans.
