The aim of this paper is to discuss the most important questions concerning stress and its effects on mental health. The author accepts transactionist theory, which basic assumptions are presented in the text. Besides transactionist, reductionist and interactionist models of stress and stress related disorders are explained, as well as the advantages of transactionism. Wider implications and importance of transactionist theory are also pointed.
