The origin of minerals and rocks names collected at the Department of Geography of «Chernihiv Collegium named after T.G. Shevchenko» National University

Abstract

The article highlights the main points of the history of the rules for the formation of mineral names and the main rules for the formation of new names. The contradictions that arose during its formation are briefly described. The authors considered the origin of the names of the collection of minerals and rocks of the Department of Geography named after T.G. Shevchenko, which form its basis. Specimens with the most interesting origin of the names are indicated.
