PRIMER REGISTRO DE UN ISÓPODO CARROÑERO DEL GÉNERO CIROLANA LEACH, 1818 (CRUSTACEA, ISOPODA) COLECTADO DE LA CAVIDAD CORPORAL DE SPHYRNA TIBURO (ELASMOBRANCHII, SPHYRNIDAE), EN CUBA/ First record of an scavenger isopod of the genus Cirolana Leach, 1818 (CRUSTACEA, ISOPODA) collected from the body cavity of Sphyrna tiburo (ELASMOBRANCHII, SPHYRNIDAE) in Cuba

Abstract

Se presenta el primer registro de un isópodo carroñero del género Ci- rolana Leach, 1818, colectado del vientre del tiburón cabeza de marti- llo Sphyrna tiburo (Linnaes, 1758). La captura del tiburón fue realiza- da en la costa de Miramar, La Habana, Cuba. Más de 20 especímenes del isópodo fueron extraídos del hospedero, sin embargo solo un macho adulto incompleto pudo ser conservado y estudiado. Se espera la colec- ta de material adicional para su clasificación definitiva. Este hallazgo constituye la primera mención de esta asociación, para las aguas cu- banas y las del Atlántico Occidental Tropical. ABSTRACT The first finding of a scavenger isopod of the genus Cirolana Leach,1818 (Peracarida: Isopoda) collected from the belly of the hammer head shark Sphyrna tiburo (Linnaes, 1758) is described. The cap- ture of the shark was made in Miramar, Havana, Cuba. More tan 20 specimens of Cirolana were extracted from the host, however only one adult male was preserved and studied. The collection of addi- tional material is expected for its definitive classification. This is the first mention of this association for Cuban and the Tropical Western Atlantic waters.
