La relación literaria de Ramón Gómez de la Serna y de Valery Larbaud. Contribución a un nuevo acercamiento según los epistolarios de algunos de los «Potassons»

Abstract

It is a well known fact that Ramon Gómez de la Serna reached his international dimension with the help of his first critic and translator. Valery Larbaud with a great enthusiasm and devotion, helped by his European and international vision of literature, and guided by his literary shrewdness –unreached by anyone else by those times–, could discern in the Greguerías a quality and features of innovation which he soon wanted to share with his friends, scholars and French readers. So he launched a campaign of promotion and diffusion of the Madrid writer’s work in France. A page of comparative literature which has often been interpreted with a certain lack and confusion since it has only been considered from the self interest of the Pombo host in regard of his French patron. Due to the fact that Valery Larbaud’s letters to Gómez de la Serna have been lost in most cases and that we basically have the Madrid writer’s, our paper aims at giving new insights to the literary friendship of both authors from some of the «Potassons»’letters…
