Le récit de voyage d’Auguste Borget : le regard d’un artiste français sur l’Argentine du milieu du XIXe siècle

Abstract

This article examines some elements of Auguste Borget’s travel account in Argentina in 1837, a country he visited during his great world tour of four years. In this travel writing, the French traveller painter describes, among others, the threat posed by the Indians for the pampas inhabitants, and he is astonished by the courageous’ gauchos way of life. We will analyse some extracts of his account using sometimes certain concepts coming from the intercultural studies.
