The attaining and maintenance of maximum performance capacity level throughout the most important events of a competitive season represent major objectives of modern training methodology. Hence, I considered it necessary to conduct a study on the particularities of achieving this goal in women’s hammer throw, by analyzing a training macrocycle of the best thrower Romania has ever had in this event. My aim was to turn this research into a thorough debate topic, considering that sports performances of Romanian athletes have decreased significantly within the past few years. My scientific endeavour is designed as a case study concerning the means and methods used to develop dominant motor skills and the dynamic of the main effort parameters within the training macrocycle comprising the major competitions attended by the research subject. The starting point of this study was the following hypothesis: a correct and rational scheduling of the main training means and an optimal ratio between the main effort parameters (volume and intensity) guarantee an optimal athletic form for a previously set date. Calculations made to this end were meant to highlight the training demands for each period of the macrocycle, with a focus of the main stage within the competitive season. The analysis conduct led to several conclusions, which may represent reference points for the future training of this female athlete or of other athletes. The most important of these conclusions is that the athletic form phenomenon represents the result of an optimal ratio between the main effort parameters, considering the training process as a whole (where exercise capacity recovery becomes a core component of sports training.
