Abstract
The progenitors of a modernist approach to architectural 1designs and urban planning were right to call their approach a movement. Modernism was all about movement: as fundamental social reconstruction, as a cultural renewal in the wake of the 'civilization' collapse during World War I, as a direct embodiment of new technologies, and as a creed for practice (their reasoning had theological echoes) in the transferability of their formal aesthetic across time, ethnicity and space.
