In football clubs, favorable relations are expected between the formation of competitive teams, sports performance and financial performance. In Brazil, after Law 13,155/2015, management suffers a series of requirements and those who joined PROFUT add exposure to their finances. In this scenario, the study analyzes the relationships between investment in teams, the financial and sports performance of Brazilian football clubs, pre and post PROFUT membership. For this purpose, it uses data from the clubs that participated in the Serie A of the Brazilian Championship in 2016, the year following the limit for joining PROFUT, submitted to panel data regression. The results reveal favorable relations of investment in training and hiring athletes on sports and financial performance, with effects even after joining PROFUT. However, the expected links between sporting and financial performance have not been identified and alerts are made throughout the survey. The work contributes to discussions about football and finance, discusses moderating effects of joining PROFUT, proposes variables and makes recommendations to clubs.
