“Tholkappiyam” is the oldest grammar treatise of Tamil. This is the grammar book that had been written by Tholkappiyar that evinces the art of language and life. It is the first book available today in the classical language Senthamizhil. It is considered to be the Document of the Tamil lifestyle because it beautifully shows the best facts of life in the Sangam Period. This is also said as the literature that portrays the culture of the Tamil people. This is also a grammar book written for written and spoken Tamil. In it, Porulathigaram speaks about the ancient people’s love life, the inner self and the outer valour. It is not only proud to be ahead of its time, but it also has the sovereignty to be the oldest of the old and the oldest of the latter in its mastery over the subject matter. The purpose of this article is to explore tholkappiyam in the context of Padanthinai Thurai.
