The mixing ability of the screw was an important factor affecting the plasticization quality and uniformity of polymer during extrusion. The mixing characteristics of the innovatively proposed field synergy torsion screw were numerically simulated and analyzed at different screw speed by employing Polyflow software, and meanwhile with EPDM rubber as raw material, a comparative experimental study was conducted on the mixing ability of conventional screw and field synergy torsion screw by measuring parameters, such as mixing efficiency, average residence time, distribution index, carbon black dispersion and particle size distribution through torsion extrusion technology. The results showed that the mixing efficiency of the field synergy torsion screw with torsion elements was higher, the residence time distribution was longer and the mixing effect of the entire extrusion system was improved, of which screw F had the best mixing ability. The obtained results were consistent with the simulation results, proving that the field synergy torsion screw had the characteristic of enhancing mixing.
