A Culture of Honesty as an Educational Strategy Against Academic Plagiarism in University Students
Abstract
This article studies the phenomenon of academic plagiarism in university students. In the first part of the text some historical considerations about plagiarism appear, later several reflective approaches about its causality are exposed and finally some ideas to implement in educational institutions in order to counteract it. Throughout the text it is mentioned that, among the means to combat it, disciplinary sanctions occupy a prominent place, even though they have not shown the expected effectiveness. Finally, it is proposed that to overcome plagiarism in universities it is necessary to join efforts from the administrative, teaching and students oriented to build an institutional culture of academic honesty.
