Effetti dei rumori antropogenici e degli infrasuoni sul comportamento e l’ecologia degli uccelli - The effect of anthropogenic noise and infrasound on bird’s behaviour and ecology
Abstract
L’incremento delle attività umane causa un innalzamento dei livelli di rumore ambientale con un impatto negativo sulle comunità di uccelli in termini di densità, biodiversità, livelli di stress nonché danni ai recettori acustici. Vengono rivisti sia gli effetti indotti da strade e cantieri che dagli ambienti urbani. Molte specie sono meno abbondanti in vicinanza di autostrade cosi come in aree ad alta rumorosità. In risposta, uccelli urbani e rurali innalzano sia l’ampiezza che la frequenza dei loro segnali acustici, facendo si che essi non siano mascherati e non correttamente uditi dai conspecifici. Vengono inoltre presentate evidenze sul possibile ruolo degli infrasuoni sull’orientamento. ------ The increase in human activities has caused a rise in particularly low-pitched noise levels that are known to have negative impact on bird populations. A lot of birds are less abundant near highways as well in noisy areas (cities, yards). In such locations, both urban and rural specimens sing with a higher pitch and song amplitude, thereby preventing their songs from being masked by environmental noise. We review current evidence for whether and how ambient noise play a role in creating selection pressures overcame by behavioural plasticity. Furthermore, evidences on the putative role of infrasound as orientation cues are presented.
