Shaivam is one of the ancient religions that still exist in India. Monuments of Indus Valley civilization and parts of Vedic literature are the early evidence of Saivism. The presence of Shaivism can be traced to the era of the Pre-Sangam Age by the sources of Sangam texts. Literature of the Pallava period explains the re-emergence of Saivisam; in the subsequent period, the literature produced by Cholas portrays the glory of Shaivism. “Saiva Samaya Vilakku” the book written by Prof. N. Subbu Reddiar explained the concept of Saiva Siddhantha to the benefit of the common man. Other than this work, the author produced another book named “Saivasidhantham Oru Arimugam”. Professor N. Subbu Reddiar authored separate books in which he explained the contribution of Thiruganasambandar, Thirunavukkarasar, Sundarar, Manikkavasakar, Thaiyumanavar, Pattinathar and their contribution to the Shaivism and Tamil Bhakti Literature. The book “Saiva Samaya Vilakku” has six chapters. The book has been in the form of that a great scholar name Karthikeyan who has immense knowledge of Saivasiddhantha explains its eminence to a young person named Kannuthalappan through fifty-one letters. This book can be defined under a separate category of literature called letter (Aphoristic) writing. The first chapter of this book is called ‘Pathiyal’. In this chapter, the author explained the elements of lord Siva. The second chapter explained the concept of the soul, the third chapter deals with the hindrance of the soul. The fourth and fifth chapter deals with the way of liberation and salvation of the soul respectively. The last chapter deals with the concept of worship in Saivasidhantha. By learning this book one can come to know about the deep knowledge of the professor. N.Subbureddiar in both literature and philosophy and also one can view and understand the features of a dedicated teacher in Saiva Siddartha.
