The European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR), the EU's second regional strategy after the Baltic Sea Strategy, began in 2011, endorsed by the European Council. EUSDR is a large-scale and visible political project and includes 14 EU countries, Member States and non-EU countries. The area covered by the EU Strategy for the Danube region stretches from the Black Forest (Germany) to the Black Sea (Romania-Ukraine-Moldova) and hosts about 115 million inhabitants. This article aims to follow the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) and the existing situation in the riparian regions of Romania until 2018, before holding the EUSDR Presidency and organizing the 8th Annual Forum1 . We started from the following essential question: What impact does EUSDR have and what benefits has it brought to Romania? The specific objective assumed: the study of the Danube as a macro-region, the research problem: the analysis of the existing situation in the Danube riparian counties in Romania, and the research question: did EUSDR manage to bring added value in the Danube riparian counties? Having as main hypothesis: The more deficient the implementation of EUSDR, the slower the counties bordering the Danube will have a slower development in terms of this Strategy, we tried to get a situation from those counties, closer to reality, so that we realize if EUSDR managed to add value to our country. The main conclusion of the article is that the benefits that Romania has from the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region include both economic development, increasing prosperity and well-being of communities in the Danube vicinity and job creation. Of course, all these positive issues will really be felt among the population only if institutional actors, at any level, are really involved in promoting this Strategy but especially in the implementation of EUSDR projects.
