This study discusses the possibilities of including teaching Brazilian History in Visual Arts classes for high school classes and the final years of elementary school. To this end, a survey was carried out in order to offer a brief history of dress and fashion studies, especially in Brazil. Based on this panorama, research possibilities were identified in the field of Art History, taking the representation of clothing as a key to reading images. The visual sources listed to support the discussion were the works of traveling artists visiting Rio de Janeiro in the early 19th century.
