The aim of this study is preliminarily assess the social impact of the construction project of the new cemetery of Santiago de Cuba. To characterize the area was necessary to use various quantitative and qualitative methods such as questionnaire, interviews with key informants, as observed by others not participating and unstructured documents and analysis. Following the methodology of the EIS and taking into account the characteristics of the area of influence for the study were considered as variables: sociodemographic characteristics, health, employment, family types and characteristics of housing, and traditional forms of appropriation of environment and main environmental issues. The main positive impacts of the construction project are directed towards employment generation, transportation and improvements in access to basic services. Instead negative could be directed primarily towards health and from the cultural point of view.
