This paper systematically summarizes the development process of fully mechanized top coal caving technology and equipment in Yankuang Group in recent 30 years. On the basis of the introduction test in China and supported by the national scientific research in the ninth “five-year” plan and the tenth “five-year” plan, the annual output of fully mechanized top coal caving mining arrived 6 Mt for the first time; through the innovation of technology and equipment such as hydraulic support frame type, coal caving theory and technology, the export of automatic coal caving and fully mechanized caving mining technology has been realized, aiming at the problem of fully mechanized top coal caving mining in thick and extra thick coal seam and hard coal seam under complex conditions, a complete set of technology of “mining, caving, supporting and transportation” was developed, the coupling relationship between hydraulic support and surrounding rock in fully mechanized caving mining with large mining height and super large mining height is studied, a complete set of technology and equipment for fully mechanized top coal caving mining with 5.5 m four-pillar and 7 m two-pillar with super large mining height is designed. Then the adaptability, mining efficiency and intelligent level of fully mechanized top coal caving mining are further improved.
