ANALYSIS OF PUBLIC POLICIES IN RAFAEL FERNANDES/RN IN THE PERSPECTIVE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

Sustainable development is a notable theme nowadays because it has influence in people’s quality of life. Development and implementation of public policies are the way how public management achieves its goals and meets the demands of people. For that reason, the general goal of this paper is to analyze the phases of public policies implemented in Rafael Fernandes/RN, focusing on those actions that promotes sustainable development from the model of public policies cycle (agenda setting, policy making, budgeting, implementation and evaluation). Therefore, it was performed a bibliographic research and a case study in Rafael Fernandes/RN. One realized the existence of some initiatives from Public Power toward sustainable development, although it is necessary to strengthen sectors that show trends of evolution and to reorient actions in sectors that demonstrate performance lag. Also, one noticed the need for further efforts to the planning sector of municipal public administration, so that the elaboration of intervention strategies and application of limited budget manage to potentiate positive trends, and be able to improve the unsatisfactory situations and to instill optimistic expectations.
