“Identical” double parathyroid adenomas in monozygotic twins
Abstract
A number of genes have been associated with sporadic causes of primary hyperparathyroidism. A case of primary hyperparathyroidism secondary to simultaneously presenting double parathyroid adenomas with identical distribution in a set of 48-year-old monozygotic twins is reported here. This case represents further clinical evidence of the genetic factors implicated in its pathogenesis and supports the impact of a shared genome on development of disease in monozygotic twins.
